Spotting quick wins

”Good enough is really effin' good.” Brené Brown, Daring Greatly
Previously at the Volcano Base, I’d been experimenting with bypassing the sometimes lengthy proposal stage for new clients, and getting straight into making something useful.
Since then, Easter Eggs have featured heavily at the Base. Lambs, bunnies, daffodils, horny squirrels, woodpeckers, you name it.

Easter slow-down
Business typically slows down over the Easter period. People spend their holiday allowances tactically around the Bank Holiday weekend, meaning there are a couple of weeks where not many people are around. So not much gets done.
That’s a bit nerve-wracking for a small service business like mine, but I knew it was coming and had prepared for it.
Either way, this week feels a bit like a Chocolate Limbo.
Spotting quick wins
When I’m talking to businesses about getting started with AI and automation, they often sit on a spectrum.
On one end, they have one very specific process or deliverable they’d love to automate. On the other end, they have a long list of things.
In both cases, it’s useful to do some basic sense-checking. I’m not talking about a lengthy analysis period or collecting business requirements. Just a simple “is it worth it” check.
In my time, I’ve created some pretty sophisticated tools to help organisations figure out what to do next. But you only need a simple tool to help you compare the value of doing something with the effort involved in getting there.
So here’s another freebie for newsletter subscribers. A simple tool that helps you spot quick wins for AI and automation in your business.
After 30-60 mins, you’ll be able to see whether the automation of a specific process is:
- a quick win
- a longer-term investment
- not really worth bothering with
- or something to avoid

Happy Easter!

Anthropic expects AI-powered virtual employees to begin roaming corporate networks in the next year. These AI identities would have their own "memories," their own roles in the company and even their own corporate accounts and passwords. Potential problems include how to secure the AI employee's user accounts, what network access it should be given and who is responsible for managing its actions.
